CANARIAN DANCE EXPERIENCE
About us

Our philosophy – Chase your passion, not perfection!

We will not try to train you into a professional dancer, because we do not believe in the philosophy of competing anymore. However, we will make sure that you will enjoy every single minute on the dance floor and that you will have a lot of fun. We want to give you the opportunity to express yourself, your emotions, and your feelings through movement. Give you a space where you forget about all the troubles that this world puts on your shoulders. A space where you find your passion. And most importantly, where you do not need to be better than anyone else.

Owner and dance teacher

Martina Doová

It all started on the 24th of December 2001. She was a little four-year-old girl with her hair tied in two braids, sitting under the Christmas tree, feeling excited about all the presents that Santa has brought for her and her two sisters. Nothing special, you may think. But believe me, one gift can change your life and make you someone you are supposed to be. That year, She has found her first ice skates under the Christmas tree. Something she have refused to take off for the next 6 years…

But let´s go step by step. Her first trip to the ice rink ended up with a big scar on her chin. But she has never been a girl to give up easily, especially if something did not go right in the beginning. So she tried again, and again, and again. She soon started doing pirouettes and jumps and the ice rink became her best friend. Well, her only friend when she thinks about it now… Before going to school, she used to go for training on the ice, after school, she used to go for the ballet classes, training to the gym, or dance preparations. She was spending the weekends and holidays in the Czech Republic, training even harder. To be better, to jump higher, to do more spins in the pirouette. She fell in love with figure skating so much, that she actually did not have any other life, just the one on the ice. Until one day…

One day, she woke up and simply did not want to do it anymore. She wanted to have friends and play games as all the other kids did. She wanted to watch cartoons on Saturday morning. She wanted to be a normal girl with a normal childhood. So she asked her parents to take a break. The break which actually meant the end of her figure skating career. But after all of those years of hard work, she could not handle not doing any kind of sport… So her mum signed her up for a ballroom and Latin dancing – her love number two. And it happened to her again… Have you ever experienced something like this: you try so hard, you give up on your friends, on holidays with your family, all because you believe that it makes sense? You believe that you will finally win that one competition, beat that girl, dance better than her. But after winning, you want to win again, be better than someone else again… Until one day, you wake up and you do not feel the passion anymore.

And then, when she was 18, she met Kate, the person who changed her perspective towards dancing. Who showed her, that she does not have to compete, that she does not have to be the best on the floor. That she can simply enjoy the movement and be happy to be able to dance. She helped her find her passion again and believed in her enough to make a dance teacher out of her. Even though they are not in touch anymore, she still owes her one. 😊

So after being the dance teacher in Slovakia, her home country, for 5 years, she is here in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, ready to share her passion with you!
